January 2025 – After a hiatus of more than 30 years, some of the members of the St Denys’ community (also known locally as the St Denys’ Crew) are embarking on bringing back the much-loved carnival to the streets of St Denys this coming May.

Traditionally, the carnival consisted of motor powered vehicles and floats, with each float being decorated to match an overall theme. The carnival also had walking performers and local youth groups involved.
The New St Denys Carnival incarnation will have only people-powered or electric powered floats, as our streets are now filled with more cars and less space. We are also conscious as a group, that we want to respect our community and leave no trace of pollution or rubbish. Of course, we will still welcome walking performers and local groups to take part.
The date of the St Denys Carnival is Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May and the Parade will begin and end at the St Denys Community Centre. The Carnival also sees entertainment along the route, including at New Testament God Church on Priory Road where there will also be stalls and great food, the Carnival will run from 11:00-15:00.
We are expecting the procession itself to take less than an hour and it will involve a rolling road block. Access to residents will be maintained at all times, there may just be a slight delay as the procession passes.
Keep an eye out for news on the carnival theme, how to get involved and upcoming info.
